New York Pizzeria – Las Vegas

Inside New York New York

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

You would expect pizza to taste better from New York, in a sense. Today we ordered a slice of Broccoli Chicken pizza, Pepperoni Stromboli, and 6 pieces of garlic rolls. Pizza is displayed and pre-cut, but when you order the pizza, it is taken from the display trays and reheated in the oven. The location is quite busy, but the line moves fast enough.

The Broccoli Chicken pizza was too dry without any sauce, but tasted OK. The Pepperoni Stromboli tasted good, but was too bready. The garlic rolls were OK, but didn’t have much flavor.

Overall, this expensive pizza tastes OK, but is definitely not worth it. You would better off with a pretzel or panda express. If you are in search of pizza, look elsewhere.

Ginseng Korean BBQ – Las Vegas

3765 S Las Vegas Blvd
Las Vegas, NV 89109

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

In search of late night dinner on the strip that wasn’t burgers or alcohol, we found Ginseng Korean BBQ on the strip. Located behind a 24-hour Walgreens near the Coca Cola store, Ginseng is one of the very few Korean restaurants on the strip. Service was OK here.

Today we ordered the Beef Teriyaki House Special and the Bibim Nang Myun (Cold Noodle with Seasoning). Six side dishes arrived at our table shortly after ordering. The dishes were not too appetizing, and tasted sour and bitter. In comparison to the quantity and quality of the side dishes of YD Restaurant in Sacramento, Ginseng stands no chance.

The Beef Teriyaki arrived with a small salad and a small portion of fried rice. The beef and teriyaki sauce was really good. The salad was watery. The rice was OK. The Cold Noodle dish was quite different. I did not expect the dish to be so cold. It was also too watery.

Overall, I do not suggest a visit to Ginseng. In terms of side dishes and taste, your money is better elsewhere. The only other changing factor could be the BBQ dishes that we decided not to try today.

Grand Lux Cafe – Las Vegas

Inside the Venetian

Rating: ★★★★☆

A fancy cafe inside a fancy casino. Located in the back of the casino, Grand Lux Cafe is usually packed with people in search for good food. Today we ordered the Miso Glazed Salmon and the Parmesan Chicken Pasta.

The Miso Glazed Salmon was delicious. The salmon is set atop a bed of rice and surrounded with various vegetables. At some parts of the salmon, an accumulation of glaze brings up too much concentrated flavor at times. The rice is cooked correctly. The Parmesan Chicken Pasta was good, but it was in need of more sauce. Halfway through the dish, the lack of sauce really detracts from the perfectly cooked chicken.

Overall, the food at Grand Lux Cafe is worth trying out. Prices are a bit high, which makes sense since it is located in a nice casino. Service was a bit lacking this time. Also, I noticed that other tables received free bread, but none were delivered by our server. Then again, I came for the food, not for the bread.

Nathan’s – Las Vegas

Inside New York New York

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

In need of a snack, we stumble into Nathan’s. Instead of ordering the classic hot dog, we decided to get chili cheese fries.

The fries were delivered to our table piping hot smothered in an ample amount of chili and cheese. They use large pieces of fries and not thinner fries, which detracts from the chili and cheese. There was not much flavor in the chili and tasted overly salty.

Overall, i would not come back to eat chili cheese fries, but I may come back for a hot dog.

Hash House A Go Go – Las Vegas

Inside Imperial Palace

Rating: ★★★★☆

You will find crazy creations and large portions at Hash House A Go Go. Today we ordered the Sage Chicken and Waffles and a hot smores mocha. The restaurant is located near the back center of Imperial Palace on the 2nd floor.

First the smores mocha came, topped with marshmallows and a graham cracker. The mocha was good, but the marshmallow top was too thick. Next came the Sage Chicken and Waffles which was presented with knife in the middle fashion. It was garnished well and was of large portion size. There is actually bacon inside the waffles! The chicken was moist and delicious. The waffles were surprisingly good too.

Overall, the food was really good and worth exploring. The service was OK, which included a farmside attitude. Eventually, I would like to come back to try something else.
