Siam Restaurant – Part 3

5100 Franklin Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95820

Rating: ★★★★½

I know a 3rd review may seem redundant, but new dishes deserve a new review. See part 1 and part 2. I actually made it on time for Siam’s lunch specials. As a note to self, do not over order the lunch specials even though they are of good value. Today I ordered the Siam Fried Rice (with beef), “my choice” combo (pad thai and bbq chicken), and I tasted red curry (with chicken).

The fried rice was very tasty. It is similar to Chinese fried rice, but I did not taste as much soy sauce. The “my choice” is actually a really good deal. You get to choose 2 items from 5 different choices. The Pad Thai was delicious like last time. I received 1 piece of BBQ chicken with the meal in the form of a thigh. The chicken is super moist and falls off the bone. The red curry is sweet, and a tiny bit spicy. The rice and chicken go very well with the curry.

Overall, Siam again proves to provide delicious Thai food in a hole-in-the-wall location. If you are craving for Thai food and are near South Sacramento, you really need to make your way down to Siam Restaurant.

Teriyaki Time

4730 Natomas Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95835

Rating: ★★★★★

You can never go wrong with ordering teriyaki from teriyaki time! If you are in Natomas and want teriyaki, then you must head up to the Raley’s shopping center on Natomas Blvd and Del Paso Blvd. Teriyaki Time has been serving up many variations of teriyaki over for many years. I find their portion sizes to adequate, and their teriyaki sauce to be mild but perfect.

Today I ordered a standard chicken teriyaki plate. My favorite dish is actually the honey spicy chicken. Today’s dish comes with a heaping portion of rice, standard salad, and sprout salad. After having the dish delivered to the table, I usually add on more teriyaki sauce for additional coating on the rice. Each table has its own bottle of teriyaki sauce. The chicken is cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. The Salads are light and complement the meat well.

Overall, I really like the teriyaki they serve here. I have never had a bad experience with Teriyaki Time over the past 5 years I have been visiting. Tasty teriyaki awaits at Teriyaki Time.

King Palace Restaurant

5829 Stockton Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95824

Rating: ★★★★☆

Dim Sum is delicious. When I want to eat dim sum the way I like it, for cheap, I always head to King Palace on Stockton Blvd. The staff is attentive, the food tastes good, and there is always enough seating…usually. If you have never ate dim sum before, you really should try it. Each dish is practically an appetizer, and various carts of food are pushed around the restaurant. Your orders are tallied on a sheet, which is then used to calculate how much you owe.

Today, I ordered: Sticky Rice Chicken, Steamed BBQ Pork Buns, Siu Mai, Beef Cheung Fun, BBQ Pork Cheung Fun, (Chrysanthemum Bolay Tea), Beef Balls, and Fried Pork Dumplings. Out of all the dishes ordered, I really like their Siu Mai, Cheung Fun, and the Sticky Rice Chicken. If you do not know Chinese, you can definitely still order dim sum.

All of the dishes I ordered are very common for dim sum restaurants. Other dim sum restaurant have even more exotic choices. At King Palace, I also opted out of dishes such as chicken feet, pork ribs, and other various dumplings because I could only eat so much. If you want to try dim sum, then you should definitely try King Palace. If you don’t want to drive down to Stockton Blvd, go to New Canton on Broadway.

Joy Luck Garden

4251 Truxel Road #C1

Sacramento, CA 95834

Rating: ★★★½☆

Apparently this restaurant had a grand opening on 4/11/12. Joy Luck Garden replaced Full Moon restaurant in Natomas. Because C.F. Chengs is probably packed today, I decided to try out this new restaurant. Since it was Saturday, I expected a busy restaurant upon entrance, but no one else was there. With that being said, Joy Luck Garden does offer both Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. Today, I decided to give their Vietnamese cuisine a shot (look for a Chinese cuisine review later on).

I ordered my usual Pho Tai with no onions. The meal arrived in a timely manner, all while the NBA playoffs were on air on the nearby TV. The broth is fairly light, but did not have too much depth of flavor like in Pho Tau Bay or Pho Saigon. The Pho noodles and the meat were of standard quality, with the noodles slightly too soft and the meat cooked through with no red upon arrival. If I had a choice, I would go elsewhere for Pho. However, if you are in Natomas and need Pho nearby, then I would suggest Joy Luck Garden.

I also ordered a strawberry smoothie. The smoothie tasted very watery, but was bright red. I assume that the may use some real strawberries in there…somewhere. I would not order that again. I prefer the fake pink strawberry smoothies of Saigon or Hoa Viet.

Overall, Joy Luck Garden does seem to have provided Natomas with some decent Pho, but by no means does it compare to the restaurants of Stockton Boulevard. Without tasting the Chinese cuisine, I cannot fully rate this restaurant. But, like other Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants, I don’t usually expect too much from the Chinese food, but we shall see…

Arigato Sushi – Part 2

1608 Howe Ave
Sacramento, CA 95825

Rating: ★★★★½

In this visit to Arigato Sushi, I had to avoid seafood, so I decided to order a Bento Box with a variety of teriyaki dishes. If you want to know about the sushi here, read my previous review. My bento box came with chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, fruit, salad, and some miso soup. The miso soup was delicious. The salad was also very appetizing. I really like the teriyaki sauce Arigato uses because it is not too thick and is not too salty. The amount of meat you get is also generous. The chicken was very tender. The beef was cooked well. The salmon was thin, but not dry. Overall, the bento box came out well and had a great presentation. For people who don’t eat sushi, the bento box is a great tasty option.
